My Favorite Movies
Movies
I am not very much of a reader (which is something I regret and am trying to change), this is why I will be presenting two of my favorite movies.
- Inception
Inception is a movie made by Christopher Nolan, he is by far my favorite director (if you can even call him that since he holds so many different roles in each movie he makes). This movie is about controlling the dreams and the consequences they can have in real life. I think this movie shows the true power of cinema, the power of telling a story by no other way than showing it to you. I did not choose this movie for the story it tells but for the way it tells it. I chose this movie because this story could never have been this powerful if it was written on a book, the way the sense of freedom is visually represented through the control of the space in the dreams is what really got me hooked. I also think that the story holds itself up very strongly. It is for me a representation of a perfect science and fiction mix. It is also very well thought for the way it confuses the viewer between the dreams and the reality, this is very smart since this confusion is also one of the biggest concerns for the characters themselves. For instance, the main character's wife killed herself trying to escape what she thought was a dream but was in fact the reality. There are dozens of reasons for why this movie is my favorite, as a matter of fact, I could propably do a whole lecture on this movie alone but the best way to understand why I enjoy it so much is to watch it yourself !
- Interstellar
Interstellar is another movie made by Christopher Nolan (whose work I really enjoyed if you haven't noticed yet), it is in my opinion one of the best examples of a subtle and well thought mix of science and fiction. Since I was a child, I have always been passionate about space, coherently, I love movies about space exploration. Interstellar is to me the best of this genre, it combines the wonderful visuals that the universe can offer, the curiosity of the scientific reasoning and the coexistence of the beauty and atrocity of the human kind. It also uses a triggering event regarding us all : the climate change. A fact that I really appreciate is the fact that the movie was written hand in hand with Kip Thorne, a physicist specialized in general relativity and black holes. Indeed, while being a fictional story, the movie is very scientificly coherent and it has been analyzed by specialists that all emphasize the attention to detail and the relevance of this masterpiece. In fact, I am strongly conviced that even if this movie was scientificly wrong, it would still have been an unmatched success. The story is just perfect, and touching and the visuals are brilliant. I am a firm believer that this movie will be considered as one of the bests in the whole 21st century.
Here are two clips of what I consider beautiful scenes of each of the two movies I just mentionned :
